Editorial Policies

Guidelines governing editorial decision-making and the independence of the editorial process across journals hosted on Scholarly Common.

Editorial Decision-Making

Fair, Independent, and Merit-Based

Editorial decisions are based on scholarly merit, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope. Editors maintain independence in their decision-making while ensuring that submitted manuscripts are evaluated fairly and objectively.

No commercial, political, or personal considerations should influence editorial decisions. All manuscripts submitted to journals hosted on Scholarly Common are entitled to impartial, expert evaluation.

Scholarly Merit
Decisions based solely on academic quality and contribution to knowledge.
Originality
Manuscripts must represent new and original contributions to the field.
Clarity
Work must be clearly communicated and well-structured.
Relevance
Manuscripts must fall within the journal's stated aims and scope.

Editors are expected to declare any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from decisions where a conflict exists. The editorial process must be transparent, documented, and consistent with the journal's stated editorial policies.
